New Mossberg Patriot Rifles

Mossberg will introduce a new line of bolt-action rifles at the 2015 SHOT Show called the Patriot. The new Mossberg Patriot rifle line is possibly the most complete line of guns ever introduced at one time: more than 50 models are in the initial release.

And…there is a reason for the vast number of rifle options at the introduction. Mossberg will progressively eliminate both the ATR and 4×4 lines as the Patriot rifles are introduced.

The line-up includes guns with wood and synthetic stocks, short- and long-actions, youth editions and scoped packages.

Let’s take a look at what is being introduced…

End of the Road for Taurus View

It seems the end of the road has come for the Taurus View. According to the Taurus USA website, the Model 85VTA – or the View – is no longer in production.

Farewell or Good Riddance?

This should not be much of a surprise to many observers of the gun industry. The View was an interesting exercise in “how small can we make it” thinking, but suffered from an inherent lack of shootability.

Charter Arms Old Glory

According to the information I’ve been sent, Charter Arms is set to reintroduce a version of the Undercover revolver called the Old Glory.

The Charter Arms Old Glory is a five-shot revolver chambered for the classic .38 Special cartridge. The gun is +P rated, so full power self-defense loads are perfectly fine in this handgun.

Ruger LC9s Pro

Ed. Update: The Ruger LC9s has been discontinued and is now only sold in the secondary market. The LC9s has been replaced with the Ruger EC9s, which is essentially the same as the original LC9s but with a number of economical manufacturing processes to keep the price down to only $339 (MSRP) in 2022.

Ruger is now shipping a new gun called the LC9s Pro. The Pro does away with the one thing that many observers said Ruger would never delete: the thumb safety.

To many people it seems Ruger has been married to the idea of a manual safety on all of their modern pistols. If the high number of sales of the company’s handguns are any indication, a large part of the market either wants the one or likes the guns so much they will put up with one. However, there are many people – also known as potential customers – who refuse to purchase a self-defense handgun that is equipped with a manual safety lever.

Here’s what we know…

Caldwell AK-47 Mag Charger

Caldwell will introduce a new Mag Charger designed for the AK-47 magazine. This will complement the existing AR-15 charging unit.

The new Caldwell AK-47 Mag Charger takes up to 50 rounds of 7.62×39 ammo at a time and lets you quickly load the magazine. The user strokes a piston on the unit to quickly load up to 10 rows of 5 rounds into the magazine. According to Caldwell, the charger is compatible with any and all AK-47 magazines including former Soviet Bloc surplus and modern Magpul mags.
