TriStar Pistols

TriStar Pistol L120

TriStar Arms added a number of new personal defense and target shooting handguns for 2013.  I am not terribly familiar with the TriStar line of firearms, but according to the company, they only recently got into the handgun market when they introduced their first pistols in 2012.

The new TriStar pistols are chambered in 9mm and .40 S&W and come in a variety of finishes and sizes.  Two of the pistols, the TP semi-auto handguns, are polymer framed guns.  The other pistols are traditional metal framed handguns.

Daniel Defense ISR: Integrally Suppressed Rifle

Daniel Defense ISR

Daniel Defense has already established themselves as a first rate rifle and component manufacturer, so it was no surprise to visit their booth at SHOT Show this year and find another great design:  the Daniel Defense ISR.  The ISR, or Integrally Suppressed Rifle, was designed from the ground up to be one complete package, which I explain below.  The official model number is DDM4ISR 300.

The Integrated Suppressor (IS)

Matt Mozak of Daniel Defense walked me through the latest, greatest DD rifle.  The rifle is designed to be a weapon system, and not just a rifle with accessories added.  To accomplish this, Daniel Defense developed and added their all new Integrated Suppressor (IS).  The integrated suppressor is threaded, pinned and welded to the rifle’s proprietary lSR gas block, in what Mozak called a monolithic baffel.  So the IS becomes a permanent part of the rifle, and not simply an interchangeable accessory.  The length of the barrel and Integrated Suppressor together is 16.145”.

SIG M400 Varminter

SIG M400 Varminter SHOT Show

The SIG M400 Varminter is a new hunting rifle using the AR15/modern sporting rifle platform.  Designed for precision, long range taking of varmints, this M400 is chambered in 5.56 and has a variety of options and features that will be appreciated by many hunters.

First off, the M400 Varminter uses a 22″ match grade, heavy barrel.  The fluted barrel is stainless steel and has a 1:9″ twist, which is fine for stabilizing lighter weight bullets frequently used for varmints.  While a 1:8″ twist is better for heavier bullets, it is literally fast enough to spin apart some lightweight, compressed metal bullets.

New Savage Model 42 – .22 WMR over .410

Savage M42

Last year the Savage model 42 reintroduced the break-open combo gun to the company’s line up.  It was a .22 LR and .410 combination gun.  For 2013, Savage brought out a new version of the model 42 chambered in .22 WMR and .410 bore.

Both versions of the model 42 break open at the receiver for chambering and extracting ammunition.  The top chamber and barrel is for the rimfire round, while the lower chamber and barrel is for the shotshell.  I should note that the .22 WMR, also known as .22 Magnum, is not capable of safely firing .22 LR ammunition.

Remington 870 Shotgun with Magpul Tactical Accessories

Remington 870 Magpul

In 2012, Magpul announced a line of shotgun accessories, and one year later Remington announced an 870 Express Tactical shotgun with those fixtures as standard features.  The new Remington 870 uses a Magnum SGA buttstock and a MOR fore-end.

The Remington 870 shotgun is extremely popular for self-defense and police work.  I’d venture to say that at least half of the law enforcement agencies in the United States has the 870 as standard equipment in the patrol car.  Likewise the guns are extremely popular with citizens wanting serious firepower to defend their homes.
