Chiappa Kodiak Cub Carbine

Chiappa Firearms announced the new LA322 Kodiak Cub: a lever-action, takedown .22 LR carbine. These compact rifles are specifically designed for harsh conditions, which make them worth considering for outdoor activities and as a survival tool.

The new guns have a matte hard chrome finish on the major metal parts including:

barrel
bolt
receiver
magazine tube
hammer
lever

Both the stock and the forend have a soft, synthetic covering that gives the gun a better surface to grip during wet conditions.

The gun weighs 5.5 pounds without ammunition.Â The tubular magazine loads from the front and holds 15 rounds.

Chiappa equips the rifle with a hooded front sight and a rear leaf sight that is adjustable for elevation. Additionally, the receiver is drilled and tapped for the addition of a scope.

This new gun is a takedown rifle, meaning it can be broken down into two major components for a more compact package. While it cannot be fired from this condition, it does drop the overall length to a mere 25″. This allows the gun to be more easily carried in a pack or stored under a seat.

For anyone wandering outdoors, a compact .22 LR rifle might make sense as a part of your survival gear. While it would not be my first choice as bear defense, it can definitely put game in the pot and keep predators at bay. I also suggest considering other gear like a personal locator beacon.

The suggested retail price on the new Kodiak Cub rifle is $809.

Chiappa made several new gun announcements ahead of the 2016 SHOT Show. These announcements include new chamberings for the triple barrel shotgun and Double Badger combo gunÂ plus the new variants in the CA612M shotgun line. Not officially announced, but leaked through a number of sources, is the new AK-ish pistol chambered in 9mm.

New Chiappa CA612M Shotguns

New for 2016, Chiappa Firearms will officially introduce the new CA612M shotguns at the SHOT Show. There will be two versions of the gun at launch: the Field and the Turkey.

The new shotguns share a number of features, but are customized to the needs of different hunters. Both guns are chambered for the 3.5″ 12 gauge shell and are semi-automatic. The semi-auto system is an inertia driven system that is designed to eliminate some of the problems associated with gas systems.

Interested in a new PPQ Match gun from Walther? It looks like the company will introduce one at the 2016 SHOT Show in January.

Details on a new 9mm pistols called the Walther PPQ Q5 Match have begun to leak out. Not much is known about the new guns, but I’ve pieced together details from several different sources to present the best information possible on the new gun.

If you’ve ever wanted a blow-back AK-ish pistol chambered in 9mm that took Beretta 92 magazines, Chiappa has the gun for you!

Expected to be shown at the 2016 SHOT Show, the new AK-9 from Chiappa Firearms is a semi-automatic pistol that has the look of an AK-style pistol but is not likely to share much in common with those guns. The guns use a straight blowback action and are fed from Beretta 92 magazines. The gun ships with a pair of 10-round mags.

Chiappa equipped the pistol with a 6.3″ barrel. Overall, the gun is 14.25″ in length. Mechanical sights are included, though I suspect many people will prefer to add a red dot of some typeÂ using the built-in Picatinny rail. The rear sight is fixed, while the front is adjustable.

Speaking of accessory rails, the gun has one underneath the barrel as well as a pair at the 3 and 6 o’clock positions. The underside rail ends with a ramped hand stop. The side rails are high up on the gun and well above the barrel.

The AK-9 pistol appears to use an AK-style magazine release and safety selector. A swivel is attached to the rear of the gun for a sling.

If you are not familiar with Chiappa, they produce a number of reproduction guns. Many people may beÂ familiar with the Rhino revolvers the company introduced a few years ago. Although the Rhino is a nice shooting gun (even in .357 Magnum,) it is very much a niche gun that does not enjoy widespread popularity. Well, besides being one of the guns used in the remake of Total Recall.

Daniel Defense Releases New 300 BLK SBR

Daniel Defense announced the company is now selling a new short barrel rifle (SBR) chambered in 300 BLK. The gun is called the DDM4 300S.

According to the company, the gun was designed for “those demanding a high-performance, short barrel rifle chambered in the versatile 300 Blackout cartridge.” As with all of the company’s rifles, the new 300S looks good and sounds like it will be a solid performer.
