SensGard SG 31 Review – Hearing Protection of a Different Nature

I’m losing my hearing. It’s not all gone, and I don’t know how much more I might lose, but I’ve definitely lost a significant portion of it.

The combination of shooting, rock concerts and sirens from the old job have conspired to rob me of more than I would have liked to have lost. As you might expect, I have become somewhat particular about making sure I protect my remaining hearing.

Where to Buy the SensGard SG 31

If you would like to purchase the SensGard ear pro that I review here, many local gun shops carry them. Online, you can get the SG 31 through our affiliate link to Amazon. As with all affiliate links, we do earn a small commission.

Recently, I had the chance to test the SensGard SG31 ear pro. The SensGard company offers hearing protection products with various noise reduction ratings, including some past 30 dB.

Further, the company claims that the products do this without impacting your ability to hear normal conversations, and without an amplification circuit.

I was intrigued, so I gave them a try.

AR-15 Double Trigger

Looking to spend a lot of money on an AR-15 trigger that will let you spend a lot of money on ammunition? Check out the D-TR double trigger from Elftman Tactical.

The D-TR is a drop-in trigger system for the AR-15 platform that introduces a second trigger guard with a double-hump, really long trigger that can be pressed from both the standard trigger position and the newly added position. This essentially lets a shooter slap the triggers in a one-two motion with the pointer and index fingers to throw a lot of rounds downrange in a manner consistent with paintball players.

Howard Leight Impact Sport Review

A few years ago, finding inexpensive, electronic ear muffs for hearing protection was impossible. Electronic ear pro seemed to start at $200 and go up from there. Fortunately, things have changed and they can be found from several manufacturers for less than $50. In this Howard Leight Impact Sport review, I describe one such example.

Electronic hearing protection allow for the amplification of ambient sound. When a loud sound is encountered, the amplification shuts down and the muffs reduce the sound like traditional, non-amplified muffs would.

MagHolder: Awesome Horizontal Carry Magazine Pouch

Innovation is alive and well in the United States small business world.  Case in point: the MagHolder magazine pouch.

Made of injection-molded plastic, the one piece MagHolder carries a single spare magazine horizontally on a belt. This presents a less noticeable bulge under a concealing garment as the magazine follows a natural visual line along the waist instead of breaking the natural line with a perpendicular angle. Think of it as camouflage: the eye is less likely to catch something when the angles flow with expectations.

SIG SB15 Brace

The recently announced SIG SB15 brace is now a standard option on several of the company’s pistols. The new pistols include the P516 with the 7.5″ and 10″ barrels, the SIG P556 SWAT with a 10″ barrel and the P556 Classic.

The SB15 brace is a forearm brace that looks like a very short buttstock with adjustable straps that affix the unit to the shooter’s forearm. The idea is to provide greater control and stability when shooting one of these large pistols.

The unit passed ATF scrutiny (see the ATF arm brace compliance letter here) so no worries about violating any NFA rules on having a SBR (short barrel rifle) without a tax stamp.

SIG SB15 for sale

SIG Sauer announced the SB15 earlier this year, and these are the first pistols on which SIG is offering the device as a standard option. The pistols are similar to the rifle versions of the gun, but without a buttstock and with shorter barrels. Magazines and other accessories will interchange between the guns.
