Blackhawk Knoxx Stock: Gen II SpecOps

[Ed. note: The information on the current generation of Knoxx Stock, the Blackhawk! Gen II SpecOps, was previously submitted during the 2012 SHOT Show. For whatever reason, I failed to get it posted properly. Better late than never, right?]

The Blackhawk booth at SHOT Show this year was a little more subdued than in previous years. In the last couple of years, the booth has been full of clothing, duty gear, breaching equipment, and weapons accessories. And there always seemed to be a steady stream of people moving through the booths.

This was the first full year after ATK bought Blackhawk back in mid-2010. The booth was combined into one large area instead of two areas, as in previous years. However, it seemed that the number of items on display seemed greatly reduced. Perhaps the idea was to focus on the most current offerings, as past years had a mixture of old and new. Whatever the marketing strategy was, it didn’t stop Blackhawk from marketing some really nice products. One of those products was the redesigned and improved Gen II SpecOps Knoxx Stock that came out last year.

Blackhawk Knoxx Stock

THE GEN I SPECOPS STOCK

The first generation SpecOps Knoxx stock was well received as a very versatile accessory option for shotgun shooters. Traditionally shotguns have either had a fixed stock, a fixed pistol grip stock, or no stock at all. The concept Blackhawk brought to shotgunners was to provide the best of all those features in one stock.

Diamondback RTS Shotgun

We found the Diamondback RTS shotgun at the 2012 SHOT Show. It is a working prototype right now, but Diamondback hopes to have them shipping sooner rather than later. We’ll keep you updated. (Update: The latest on the production of the Diamondback shotgun is at the bottom of the article.)

SRM Arms Model 1216 Shotgun

I was able to handle the SRM Arms semi-automatic Model 1216 shotgun at 2012 SHOT Show. (Please note that you can click here for the latest news from the SHOT Show.) One of the interesting features of this particular scattergun is the revolving high capacity magazine. Instead of a single magazine tube, the SRM 1216 has four tubes that quadruple the amount ammunition loaded.

Changing magazine tubes is accomplished by flipping a simple thumb lever located on each side of the front of the magazine. This releases the action and the entire tube assembly is rotated by the operator.

I tried rotating the magazine tubes and found it to be very intuitive. It is obviously much faster than stoking a regular tube full of loose shotgun shells to up your ammo.

Safety Harbor Firearms: New Shotguns!

Safety Harbor Firearms is rolling out several new shotguns ahead of the 2012 SHOT Show. All three are short-barreled shotguns from the company’s KEG line.

Two new models of KEG 12 (Kompact Entry Gun) shotguns seem to live up to the line’s name as they are outfitted with breacher-style muzzle brakes. Watching the video (below), it would appear the brakes do a respectable job of limiting recoil.

One of the new KEG12’s has a 7 1/4″ barrel, while the second uses a 10″ barrel. Both have a one-shell extension on the magazine tube, taking capacity up to four 2 3/4″ shells (3+1) for the shorter KEG12, and five shells (4+1) for the longer gun.

Black Aces Tactical Shotgun Rails

I recently came across Black Aces Tactical, a Florida company making quad-rails for the Remington 870/1100 and Mossberg 500/590 shotguns.

The rail system is a single piece made from 6061-T6 aluminum alloy weighing about 16 ounces. The rails are black anodized (type II). The rails will accept any standard AR-type accessories: lights, lasers, coffee makers, whatever.

Black Aces Tactical states felt recoil will be reduced by about 15%. There is not a specific explanation on the website on why this is, but I imagine the additional weight on the top and end of the gun help reduce the recoil impulse and muzzle rise. An extra pound may not seem like much, but think about how much extra recoil you feel when you drop a pound from a rifle or scattergun. So the recoild reduction of weight is not to be underestimated.
